Profiles of Courage & Compassion

” To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. ” – Howard Zinn

Five Years, After

Five Years, After

Five years after the violence in Gujarat, the filmmaker travels to Gujarat again. This time to find hope. In the lives of ordinary people. Across three districts in Gujarat she discovers many who had saved others during the violence. Risking their own lives. And she meet many others courageously fighting for justice. She compiles their photobiographies into a book she co-authors with Harsh Mander, ‘Towards Healing’. The books has been published by WISCOMP.

Akanksha made moving presentations of the stories in Open Frame Film Festival & Forum, 2009. And in Indo-Pak Peace Conference held in India International Center organized by WISCOMP in late 2007.
